Institutional mission

ONACC’s mission and its two structuring pillars

The National Observatory on Climate Change monitors and assesses the socio-economic and environmental impacts of climate change, and proposes prevention, mitigation and/or adaptation measures to strengthen Cameroon’s resilience.

Contribute to Cameroon’s low-carbon and climate-resilient socio-economic development.

Adaptation

Climate monitoring and impact assessment

Production of climate information, risk monitoring, warning bulletins, impact assessment, and planning support for climate-sensitive sectors.

Mitigation

Emissions inventory and carbon monitoring

Greenhouse gas inventories, carbon balance, emissions reduction monitoring, support to climate commitments and valuation of carbon sinks.

ONACC monitors climate evolution in Cameroon, develops relevant climate indicators, and produces the national climate assessment to support public decision-making.

Impact and risk assessment

Assessment of socio-economic and environmental climate impacts, including risks linked to hazards and extreme events.

Mitigation, carbon and greenhouse gases

GHG inventories, carbon balance monitoring, support for emission reduction actions, and contribution to tracking Cameroon’s climate commitments.

Climate data, modelling and geomatics

Centralization of climate data, database development, map production, geomatics exploitation, and support to climate modelling.
